Object Detail

Description
mirror, pillar, with original mirror, upright rectangular mirror is housed with a mahogany and mahogany veneer frame which houses an original mirror. The pillar supports which extend up both sides of the mirror are supported on block plinths which are edged with box and ebony stringing. A simple ebonized turned base at the column supports a plain, tripartite mahogany column, which is otherwise unadorned. The column is capped by a turned Doric capital in mahogany, the central section of which is ebonized. The capital supports a block form which is edged with box and ebony stringers. The inset panel (entablature) above the mirror and beneath the frieze is decorated with diagonal diamond patterns of stringing within the mahogany veneer. The mirror frame is surmounted by a deep convex frieze which extends 10 cm from the back of the frame at its apex. The convex section of the frieze moulding is decorated with 18 ebonized spheres at 25 mm intervals.
