Object Detail
Description
mirror, octagonal, mosaic of cut blue glass and mirror tiles adhered to a wooden frame. The mirror tiles are laid in geometric patterns in three bands. The outer band is of mirror tiles cut on the diagonal to form a square. The band is held in position by thin brass strips. there are four of these strips holding the mirror mosaics in position. The central band is a star motif created from eight diamond shaped mirror pieces, assembled to form the star. Each star is surrounded by a border of small blue glass tiles. The inner band replicates the outer band as formed by a series of four triangular shaped mirros laid in a square. Each star pattern and each mirrored square section six slightly raised to the centre, perhaps to maximise the refraciton of light, thus accentuating the jewel
