Description
teacup and saucer, Bute-shaped teacup, hand-painted in a “Japan” style pattern of gilded scalloped reserves filled with an orange wash, the top of the scallop is decorated with a stylised anthemion in orange-red, below a green mound and three green circles all outlined in black, a gilded flower and foliage design alternates above each scallop. The rim and handle of the teacup are line gilded and the cup has a “mon” style circular decoration in the well, incorporating the orange wash, orange-red anthemion and the three green circles outlined in black. The saucer has the same decoration as the exterior of the teacup, with a matching “mon” decoration in the well. The teacup has a well formed kicked handle, often referred to as a “Spode type” handle.
