Object Detail

saucer dish, small circular with fluted sides and scalloped rim, slightly flared to create a shallow bowl. The surface of the dish is painted with polychrome enamels and depicts bamboo, chrysanthemums, a fence (or possibly a bridge over water), a bird and two butterflies in flight and a butterfly settled on aflowerhead. Painted in a famille verte palette with additional gilded on flowers and around the rim (most of the gilded has been rubbed off). Highly translucent body. Footring has been wiped clean of glaze, leaving a 2 dry edge around the outside of the ring.
