Object Detail

Description
figure group, probably portraying the Prince of Wales (Albert Edward, 1841-1910) riding astride a male goat facing to the left. The prince sits facing the viewer, his right hand on the goat's head, his left on his lap. He wears clothing similar to that of the girl of a same age in the 1840's, a form of dress covering ankle-length knickers; this is painted with underglaze cobalt blue and has a gold border at the neck, cuffs and hem. His bonnet bears what may pass as the Prince of Wales' feathers which have been painted yellow. The goat's hair is brown and orange streaked; it has been decorated with a line of applied shredded clay which extends from the top of its head down the length of its back to its tail and also down its front. Shredded clay at the top of the legs and at the feet cover the points of application.
