Object Detail
Description
plate, circular with slightly recessed, shallow bowl (cavetto) and a shaped rim formed from a series of ogee brackets. The well of the plate is hand-painted with several groups of flower sprays in underglaze blue, including a rose. The border around the edge consists of a band of alternating repeated crosses, the larger of which may be seen to be four-petalled florets or saltire crosses formed from four rice grains. The rim of the plate is painted with an orange-brown colour which in earlier times was a technique employed to prevent the extremity from burning; the same has been done to the footrim. The ground colour is a grey-blue tone.
