Object Detail

Description
figure of Milton, derived from a plaster from the London shop of the sculptor Henry Cheere, a signed example of which is known. Cheere's plaster was made as the companion to a reproduction of William Kent and Peter Scheemakers' monument to Shakespeare of 1740 (which was also reproduced in Derby porcelain), which may have been modelled by Cheere himself.
