Description
Christmas stocking, navy, dark red and cream, embroidered with initials William Johnston on cuff, chair from Calcutta suite A0860 on front. hand embroidered William Johnston’s stocking has one of the Calcutta chairs embroidered on it, on the chair sits two Christmas presents which can be found sitting on one of the Calcutta chairs in the room. this piece started out as just a piece of cream homespun fabric and then the chair was embroidered, the back ground was then filled in, in satin stitch. the whole piece was stitched with 1 strand of thread. The scrolled design is the same as the edge of the What-not. the cuff has William Johnston’s initials surrounded by a design from the hope plate this is cross stitch worked over one thread in one strand of thread. We have estimated this piece has over 60 thousand stitches in it.
