Object Detail


Description
dish, oval, four small shaped feet with flat base and raised, everted rim; the dish stands upon four raised feet with moulded scroll decoration.
The dish is hand-painted with underglaze blue and features a landscape scene with rocks, foliage, chrysanthemums and birds; the birds include peacocks and swallows in flight, a Chinese pheasant and doves in the branches of a shrub, a crane standing to the right and two ducks (grebes?).
The border design shows four lotus type flowers interspersed with scrolled foliage. The underside of the dish is covered with a large number of stilt marks and the four feet have been left unglazed. A Chinese four character mark is in underglaze blue at the centre.
