Object Detail

Description
centrepiece, two putti carrying an urn, on square base, turquoise blue and white. Vase shape shows both Egyptian and Japanese influence. Typical of Minton's output in the 1860s and 1870s when the firm became increasingly interested in producing wares in an 'exotic' style, in keeping with public enthusiasm for the decorative motifs of the 'orient'. the designer Christopher Dresser, who designed vase shapes like this, exerted great influence on Minton wares at this time. Dresser began supplying Minton with designs for tablewares and ornamental pieces in the late 1860s and many of these made it into production.
