Description
basket or serving dish of quatrefoil form resting on four scrolled feet and with two looped intersected handles with a central applied rose. The main body features a white ground decorated with green painted florets with gold centres; reserves bordered with scrolled foliage are painted with flower sprays and, in the centre, various seashells. Gilded, gadrooned rim (clamshell-like) and gilded decoration to the feet. Beneath the base is a transfer printed French retailer's mark.

Inscriptions
"A la Porte Chinoise / No 29 / Place / de la / Bourse" is inscribed on the base surrounding the transfer printed mark (see 'other'). This is assumed to be the name and address of a French retail outlet. It is well known that retailers had porcelain marked specifically for their purposes with their store 'logo'.
