Object Detail

Description
figure group of a young boy standing to the right of a wall or stone pedestal. Atop the wall stands a lamb with its foreleg raised to the boy's left arm. His right arm is around the lamb's neck. The boy wears a tunic. Please note the figure is referred to as David and the lamb of God in the Harding book, but it is now widely believed to be John the Baptist and the lamb of God. Staffordshire figure with a religious theme which features John the Baptist and the lamb of God (symbolising Christ), stood on ashaped base. Multi-coloured version. Dull gilt base line and embellishment. Decorated 'in the round'-decoration to front and reverse. Vent hole to the underside.
